As I look outside the Montana Raft office on this first day of May, I see quite a different scene from years past. It has been raining most of the day and it continues to snow in the high country, adding to an already large snow pack for the raft season. I can recall a couple years ago, May 1st, was the first day I went rafting. This year, however, we currently have remaining snowdrifts in our boatyard and in front of our lifejacket room. Although, I’m sure we’ll be driving up to the put-in any day now, yeah!! The Montana Raft Guides are a buzz of anticipation, waiting to see what all this snow will bring us come summer. Will we have a warm rain that melts all our snow quickly and gives us big water? Or, will we have a nice slow melt that lasts late into the summer season. We all agree that it is good for the area to have some colder temperatures and precipitation this late in the season. It has been great for taking a nice breather before a busy summer or if you’re me, watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs. We are all getting a little eager for some summer like weather, so we’re looking forward to tomorrow when the clouds are suppose to part opening up the sky to mammoth snow-covered peaks. I have been helping out this month in the office and it is has been very exciting. There are so many people calling booking trips and sharing their excitement for their summer vacations with us. So let’s take that fun energy straight through the rest of May.
